Because of his internship with his drive and determination, Spielberg was signed onto a long term director deal with Universal in 1968. This deal made Spielberg the youngest director ever signed to a long term deal with a major Hollywood studio for that time. Being an intern was probably more important than attending film school for Spielberg.
